Getting Comfortable with Loss

How comfortable are you around loss?

All kinds of loss, death, divorce, job loss, sickness, financial loss?

In western culture most don’t want to think about, talk about and there is not many that know what to say when loss occurs.

Just this week, a man commented that he wished he’d known me 2 years ago when his wife of 40 years died.

They were part of a big community.

He thought they would be there for him.

No. They all disappeared. “Giving him his space to grieve alone.”It is like people think, they may catch it, if they hang around it.

Death and all kind of loss is something that will continually happen to us all.

Instead of being fearful of this fact, what happens if we really accepted it and got comfortable with it?

Would we be able to live much richer and more fulfilling lives?

People living in Bhutan, are encouraged to contemplate and meditate on their own death.

Seems a bit morbid to the west, but maybe they are on to something.

Bhutan has been named the happiest country in the world and has an extremely high quality of life when it comes to health and wellbeing.

Hmmm, maybe it’s time to get comfortable with the inevitable ~ Loss comes to us all in many forms.
