Recent years have shaken up the traditional workplace and that creates an opportunity for us to all to create a team-dynamic focussed environment.
One where the people are seen, appreciated, respected, accountable, developed, innovative, collaborative and know that ‘their whole life’ is valued, not just their professional life.
This is something I’ve been passionate about for a long time. Mainly because I know that when you treat your employees as your company’s greatest asset, they in turn, will assist you to make the best possible product, offer the best possible customer experience and build the strongest possible company.
Now, I understand that this is a total 180 flip on the way you see your employees now. They are seen as an expense. Just look in your profit and loss statements. Yep, they are listed as an expense. Now, I am not about to change the accounting standards, though humour me for a sec, how do you treat your physical assets?
You look after them. You maintain them. You invest in them. You make sure that they are always in tip-top working condition. You rest them for a period of time if they have been running/working for too long. And because of the way you treat them, they always are in tip-top condition to produce to your requirements.
Now how do you treat your expenses? You minimise them. You expect to get 300% return on investment. You make sure that you work them to the bone before replacing them. You cut them down at the first sign of problems.
Are you starting to see the advantages of valuing your employees as an asset?
I understand that seeing advantages and then changing your current management style and skills sets require a strategic plan. One that will assist you to reap the rewards, both in a better team environment and a better bottom line.
Which brings me to the purpose of my post today. Over the next few weeks, my posts will be focussed on things you can start to change in yourself and the workplace. Slight little tweaks that will bring huge rewards……….. to your people, purpose and profits.
